Welcome to TF Felines. The fact that you have found your way here probably means that you have just found out your cat has Tritrichomonas foetus, or you have heard about Tritrichomonas foetus and you are wondering if your cat has it.
Our aim in creating this website was to pool the information that we had found when researching TF, into one place in an easy to read format.
Within these pages we will try and answer some of your questions and share our experiences of TF.
As Tritrichomonas foetus is an emerging cause of diarrhea in cats, it has been difficult to find others who have shared our experiences. We welcome your stories and would be extremely happy if you felt you would like to share them. If you have a story to tell, please contact us.
This website is a work in progress, as we learn more about TF we will share it here along with updating our stories of testing and treatment.
We would like to thank our vet Dr. Brian J. Huber for the efforts he has gone to in his quest to find out what was wrong with our cat, and for his continued support while we try and find out more about this illness.
We would also like to thank Dave from Highgait Paws Cattery whose informative updates on the treatment of his own cats has been invaluable. We applaud him for sharing his experiences of TF, and his web page was our inspiration to create this site.
Finally we would like to thank Dr. Jody Gookin and all of those working with her for their study of Tritrichomonas foetus and their efforts to find an effective treatment.
Dr. Jody L. Gookin, DVM, Ph.D., DACVIM (Internal Medicine) and Dave Dybas, HighgaitsPaws Abyssinians, have co-authored an excellent and informative article on TF. Version number 3 of AN OWNER'S GUIDE TO DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF CATS INFECTED WITH TRITRICHOMONAS FOETUS, which was updated in April 2008, is available in PDF format here.
We suggest anyone considering TF as a possibility for their cat MUST take the time to read this article. Version number 3 of an Owners Guide includes updated information on both testing and treatment which makes this article of particular importance.
Important note - the information for treatment with Ronidazole has changed. Please see AN OWNERS GUIDE TO DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF CATS INFECTED WITH TRITRICHOMANAS FOETUS for the latest information.Firstly let us say that we here at TF Felines are not experts. We don’t have qualifications in Veterinary medicine or indeed Molecular Biomedical Sciences, so we are far from being experts on Tritrichomonas foetus. We do, however, own cats who have, or have had Tritrichomonas foetus. We know how frustrating it can be, and we have set up this website to help others like ourselves find the answers to their questions about TF.
We will endeavor to make sure all of the information on this site is accurate but there is no guarantee we will get it right all of the time.
A little internet learning can be a dangerous thing, so as with all things medical to do with your cat, it is always best to seek the advice of your veterinarian for any health issue you may be having with him or her.
We are purely trying to share the things we have learned from looking after our own cats who have been diagnosed with TF. While we believe the information contained on these pages is accurate, there is no guarantee that it is, some of it may be out of date, some of it may be incomplete and therefore we assume no responsibility for, and make no guarantee with respect to results which may be obtained from any procedures, medications, dosages, or products listed.
